Hands up how many of you have spotted the Avène product range in Boots, sk:n clinic or in your local pharmacy and not taken the time to explore further?

If you suffer from sensitive, intolerant and even allergic skin now is the time to try Avène for yourself – as we did in The SPA Traveller office – with some amazing results.

Initially, we tried the Eau Thermale Avène sunscreen range as we all know protecting your skin against the damaging effects of the sun is the first step towards youthful looking skin.

The hypoallergenic “very high protection” Spray, available in factor 50 which offers broad UVB and UVA protection was a winner with our pale-skinned reviewer who had suffered with eczema since the age of one.

As someone who can only use natural skincare products finding a suitable sun block which doesn’t aggravate the skin during the summer can be quite a challenge.

But she reported no adverse reactions using the spray made from the pure Avène spring water (which should be applied 20 minutes before going into the sun for maximum effect) and total protection from the rays – even while travelling through Australia where the effects of the sun are made worse by the thin ozone layer.

She also carried a tube of factor 20 Emulsion, which she now uses daily under make-up, to help reduce the ageing effects of the sun. It’s essential to wear a sun block that contains both UVA (as this prevents the effects of ageing) and UVB (which prevents burning).

We then tried the Eluage range of anti-ageing products starting with the crème which has been specially formulated using a patented combination of retinaldehyde and H.A.F (Exclusive Fragmented Hyaluronic Acid) for the loss of firmness, deep wrinkles and skin dryness.

Retinaldehyde is a form of vitamin A useful in treating skin ailments and ensuring healthy skin. Most forms of vitamin A have a difficult time penetrating your skin, but retinaldehyde is able to reach the lower layers of your skin and cause positive effects, according to Osmosis Skin Care reports.

In a study of 2,738 men and women, conducted by Avène, over a three-month period a “significant improvement in all signs of ageing” was reported.

Eluage crème acts by working deep within the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin fibre production. Facial contours are plumped, reshaped and toned, wrinkles are less defined and smoother and skin is nourished and revitalised.

Used in conjunction with the Anti-Wrinkle Concentrate (which targets those deeper wrinkles) we noticed a difference in skin texture and lightening of fine lines within three months – and no break-outs or skin problems on our eczema sufferer.

Avène is now top of our shopping list next time we visit Boots!
