A spa that’s thinking out of the box
There’s nothing square about ESPA’s new signature spa housed over four floors of The Cornithia Hotel in London.
ESPA Life at The Corinthia Hotel, London
Circular treatment rooms, cosy cocoons, curved corridors all mark the era of a new spa experience in the new ESPA Life which has just opened at The Corninthia in London.
The designers of this breathtaking, marble-clad temple have definitely thought out of the box to give clients a seamless experience from the cool elegance of reception to the fireside beds of the relaxation area.
The smooth lines of this spa are evident the moment you walk into the spacious reception area where the cool Tunisian white marble and silver tables are offset with a shot of vibrant purple from the flowers.
Spread over four floors and covering 3,300 square metres, the enormity and grandeur takes your breath away as you walk along the vast curved-walled corridors to your circular treatment room.
I am shown to one of the 17 treatment pods but the spa also boasts a nail studio, Daniel Galvin hair studio, nine-metre silver steel swimming pool, amphitheatre sauna, black mosaic steam room and a state-of-the-art gym.
My personalised massaged started with an in-depth talk from my therapist, who sat on the floor on a cushion, and focused on how I was feeling “today”, my health and what I was looking to achieve from the treatment.
After my consultation it was finally agreed the best essential oil for me was ESPA Restorative Oil as this would allow me to relax for the next 50 minutes but should make me feel energised once I left the spa.
Lighting and music is always very important during a massage and both were perfect as the lights were dimmed quite low and the volume was not overpowering – allowing me to drift away.
The treatment bed was also warmed along with the oil that was applied to my skin making this a soothing experience I would recommend to anyone seeking a bit of time out from the city beyond these doors.
As my time came to an end I was shown back to the round relaxation area where I had time to take in the sheer beauty of this spa. Glass-beaded curtains, a fireplace curved into the marble heating your space, black marble dressing tables with hairdryers inside and the circular shower area.
In fact, the lines within the changing area were so smooth I couldn’t find the door to get out! But after this minor blip I headed upstairs to the luxurious spa café with its white leather seats and pink petals scattered in a bowl on each table.
After my delicious smoothie, which consisted of Goji berries, cranberries and blueberries, I was ready to take on the world happy in the knowledge I had a small bottle of ESPA Restorative Oil in my bag for later…

* A jewellery box is provided in the changing rooms for your necklaces, earrings and rings and is locked away
* Allow time to sit in front of the fire in the relaxation room as it is quite mesmerising
* And allow time to enjoy the spa café as you will not want to rush home
