Travel therapy

This year has seen volcanic ash, strikes and delays - air travel has become extremely stressful so why not let an airport spa take the strain? And you don’t even have to take your clothes off...

We are all used to weather delays and the occasional airport strike, but who would have thought volcanic ash from an erupting volcano in Iceland would be responsible for closing down airspace across Europe?

Today, passengers are getting used to being left in limbo at airports around the world as they try to navigate their way home dodging acts of God, strikes and regular delays.

If you find yourself stranded during your next business trip or holiday it might be worth checking out some of the new travel spas which have opened around the world. British Airways have teamed up with Elemis to offer customers exclusive treatments and skin-therapies at selected airport lounges including London Heathrow Terminal 5 in Departures South, T5B, Arrivals, Heathrow Terminal 3 and at New York JFK Terminal 7.

Complimentary treatments are available for First and Club World customers and Gold Executive Club members flying long haul. Elemis aims to bring a new concept in travel spa and skin-therapies to rejuvenate your skin, awaken your senses and refresh you on your forward journey.

The new range of 15-minute treatments, exclusively designed for British Airways, features innovative massage techniques for men and women, specifically devised for travel - and you don’t have to take your clothes off.

On departure, treatments are designed to aid sleep and relaxation, calming you so that your on-board experience is enhanced. On arrival, treatments are designed to re-awaken, energise and uplift you for the day ahead.

The cows have a new home in Virgin Atlantic's clubhouse at London's Gatwick Airport which has added a brand new Cowshed Spa for its passengers. "Cowshed Spa" sounds like an oxymoron, like that other British invention Shabby Chic, but the premium spa brand was named for the original purpose of the building that houses its first location, at the Babington Hotel in Somerset county. (There are no cows there now.)

Its six locations in England include one in the London Heathrow clubhouse, where passengers can get treatments like hot stone facials and full-body salt scrubs.
