Cleopatra’s Egypt
Retreat from the heat into some of the world’s best spas in Cairo and the Red Sea...
Cairo literally comes alive at night, and it can almost feel like its 17 million inhabitants have all taken to the streets at once, which is why you may want to seek solace in the cool, marble lobby of The Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence which boasts the city’s largest spa.

First impression on entering this grand hotel with its black and gold shimmering towers is the sight of the sun setting behind the pyramids which can be seen from the suite – a view even Cleopatra herself would have been impressed by.
Standing on the West Bank of the Nile this hotel also boasts views of the Zoological and Botanical Gardens which can be seen from the luxurious rooftop pool.
Cairo can be a tiring city, so why not re-charge your batteries with a few hours in the Spa and Wellness Centre. Egyptian philosophy regards beauty as a holistic concept, embracing both the inner and outer self.
The ancient Egyptians spent many hours pampering their bodies with oils and creams. Both men and women prized perfumes and cosmetics as a way of restoring vitality and good health.
From the spa you can enjoy the Nile view and experience the glamour of the pharaonic era with a massage using relaxing oils to ease away the stresses of the day. Massages in guest rooms and suites are available upon request.

Create your own Cleopatra’s Milk Bath
• 750g non-fat dry milk
• 250g baking soda
• 3-4 cups of dried herbs or flowers such as lavender, rose petals, lemon balm, scented geraniums or rosemary
• Blend the milk powder and baking soda in a bowl. Spread a layer in a large plastic container and cover with a layer of herbs or flowers.
• Repeat the process (ending with a layer of herbs/flowers).
• Seal and store the mixture for two to three weeks.
• When you are ready, open the container and sieve the mixture to remove the herbs or flowers.
• Store in an airtight container – if it’s for a gift sprinkle the top with dried herbs or flowers.
To use:
Simply pour one cup of the mixture under the tap while filling the bath.
Soak for at least 20 minutes and feel the stress ebbing away.
Cleopatra is said to have bathed in a bath of milk and whey (rich in linoleic acid), olive oil and honey - a combination which eases stressed skin but probably not the best mixture for a DIY treatment at home!
