A swimmingly good spa
CHLOE URQUHART literally floats into the spa at The Columbia Beach Resort in Cyprus for a head massage to die for...
Swimming into a spa is the epitome of arriving in style. And there is no better place to do this than at The Columbia in Cyprus which boasts an 80-metre infinity pool with breathtaking views of The Med.
The Columbia Beach Resort is neatly tucked on a hillside near the picturesque Bay of Pissouri and enjoys a sense calm and wellbeing after the more touristy towns of Pafos and Limassol.
And this is probably why it was the chosen destination for The Queen’s grand-daughter Zara Phillips and her new husband, England rugby player Mike Tindall for their belated honeymoon after the World Cup in New Zealand.
Columbia may now have been give the royal seal of approval but not without reason as this is resort with a swimmingly good spa and some of the best family rooms in Cyprus.
After a few lengths of the lagoon pool I was ready to hit the sun-lounger but knew I had a better offer if I could just swim a few more metres through the open glass doors, passed the Jacuzzi, and into the majestic spa.
I literally flowed into reception and was met with a warm smile from my therapist who offered up a bathrobe (chocolate brown), slippers and a glass of water as I ascended from the pool.
Deep couches were laid out on either side of the pool and were just too tempting for this “Olympian” swimmer. Once I was relaxed, my therapist returned and we made our way to a large treatment room for my Molton Brown hair mask and head massage.
Now, this is the perfect therapy for anyone coming to the end of their holiday. As we all know the sun and sea water takes a toll on your hair stripping moisture and shine.
My Molton Brown treatment and relaxing head massage was the perfect end to this spa holiday which had mostly been spent in water.
(Note to self; buy glamorous swimming hat for next spa holiday).
For those seeking other treatments you can be pampered with selected products from other international brands such as Daniele de Winter and Phytomer.
And if you would you like to keep fit during your stay a daily visit to the health and fitness centre will help you find new energy. The well-equipped gym in a light airy setting is a perfect place to work out or try one of the regular classes on offer in the aerobics room complete with mirrors and sprung wood flooring.
The Columbia also has two squash courts and two floodlit tennis courts so you can put yourself through your paces at any time of day or night.
